This is a perennial shrub that can grow to 3m high. The leaves are opposite and are short stalked. They are pointed and hairy underneath. The flowers are yellow and are tubular and in pairs. The fruit is shiny black. Moist forest clearings, swamps and streamside are its usual habitats.
